This is a Community Forum - what does this mean?
« on: 17. August 2008, 15:03:57 »
Because it seems that many users expect (or even claim) answers to all questions and solutions for all problems, there are some things which have to be clarified.

This is community forum and not a support forum. Why this difference is all-important?

  • You haven't bought SOBI2, but You have got it for free!
  • You haven't bought SOBI2 - and You have no rights to claim any kind of support.
  • You have especially no rights to expect support from the (both**) developers. If we have to answer all Your questions, we are not able to continue to develop SOBI2 and all the plugins.
  • If You get answers to Your question - be happy. If not, try to help other users and maybe in the meantime someone answers to your question.
  • This is a community forum. Community means the group of all users who should help each other. If You are using SOBI2, you are part of this community.
  • If You are looking for help, try also to help other users.
  • Several users are within the SOBI2 Support Team, but these users are also part of the community. They are not obligated to answer questions. They are also volunteers.
  • The forum moderators are not responsible for answering support questions.

Why it is important that you also help other users? Let's imagine this situation:

  • You have a problem. To find a solution for Your problem some special knowledges are necessary.
  • You post Your question and You are waiting for the answer.
  • There are some other questions in this forum for which You know the answer but You don't feel like answering these questions.
  • Some other user who may know the answer to your question, logs in to the forum and starts answering several posts. She/he is also part of the community and invest her/his free time for it.
  • This user answer the few questions which You was able to answer too. And then, because she/he has no time any more, logs out and You don't get the solution for Your problem.

Now I think it is clear what I mean. If You would have answered the questions, the other user could answer Yours. This is, I believe, how community should work.

So this forum is similar to the Joomla! community forum and the same rules are in effect:
Quote
The Joomla! forum is entirely the responsibility of the community itself.  Every individual forum user has the ability to answer a question or two.  The more questions each user answers, at their own ability level, the fewer questions are left unanswered.

I encourage everyone to read and answer as many questions as they can, because quite frankly that's the best way to learn.  Answering the questions you know and reading the ones you don't will eventually make you a Joomla! expert.

**) I have sometimes the feeling that the most of the SOBI2 users believe that the SOBI2 Development Team consists of 10 or 20 developers. So please notice: the SOBI2 Development Team, the team which develops SOBI2, the Gallery Plugin, Media Plugin, SobiSEF Plugin, OpenSEF Plugin, Review & Rating Plugin, Report Listings Plugin, several modules, all the commercial plugins and writes a big part of the documentation and maintains the download and demo sites consists of 2 (two) people.
