I need some help, I'd like to make the main page like the search (extended search) where my visitors can select zip code, county from a drop down list, and have the catagories listed below (not in the drop down), and remove the search term box.  I thought I'd seen a module or componet that did this very easily but I'm unable to locate it.  I remember is was something  like ____-plus.

If someone could piont me to the correct file I could possibly edit it.

Sobi2 by Field (click-to-search list by field)
http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,3104/Itemid,35/

The PLUS version now requires a subscription to download (still GPL/GNU).

SOBI2 can be configured to show Search as frontpage by editing the config.ini file.
File location: joomla_root\components\com_sobi2\includes\inc\config.ini
Change this
[frontpage]
callback = "showListing"

to
[frontpage]
callback = "searchSobi2"

SOBI2 Search will now be the SOBI2 frontpage.

I downloaded the module and  installed it, thanks.  I didn't download the plus version, I'm unsure if it would fit my needs.   I emailed the modules creator and asked but havn't heard back yet.

I've got the search function on the main page of the site, with the just categories showing (drop down list) and county (drop down list), what I'd like to have happen is have the site visitor select the county they want to search (drop down list) and then select the category (displayed in a 3 or 4 columns) not in a drop down list.

Currently unable to locate the search page in sobi2's file structure, to see if I would be able to modify it or not, probably not seeing as I have limited skills.

Anyone know why the sobi2 drop down module fails to take you to the correct category when the Search Page is the front page of the component?

Just came across that now, anyone else had this problem??

Yes! I have this same problem right now and am hoping for a happy ending.

I don't see on the registry edit page where there's a "callback" field where one could "showListing" for the menu module.

Nothing on the menu module page settings either.

Is there somewhere this can be edited?

It just doesn't make sense to me to have the categories displayed say in the left "column" area along with other site navigation, but then have the main sobi page unncessarily duplicate the category list in the mainbody area.

So yeah,  it was a GREAT idea to be able to turn OFF the categories' display for SOBI's home page.

The difference for user is between SEARCHING versus BROWSING. If he clicks on a category folder he's browsing. Hence the side memory module really needs to display the vcard list with a callback function.

How to do this?

If it isn't there, perhaps your SOBI2 version is too old.
And.. this doesn't change the behaviour of the menu module, but for SOBI2 frontpage.

I'm using the 2.8.5 and just saw 2.8.6 is avail. I'll update & hope for good things.

My prev. post might not have been clear: I do see the callback field for the SOBI Frontpage section where I changed the default to "searchSobi2". But is there a setting that would do the same for the tree-menu module's targeting (which I've assigned to the left position below my main site menus)?

Because now I've got the main table area right just showing the search box, but when clicking on any category in the  tree menu module, I can't bring up the vcard listings. It just links to the main sobi page instead showing the search.

I guess what I'm saying is can there be a "showlisting" callback for the tree-menu module so this doesn't happen?  The alphabet display still works regardless of the callback setting for the frontpage registry entry.

This is what the other poster and I really hope can change. Is there another setting on system configuration, or do I need to look at some other file?

Reasoning: I want to offer people both search AND browse, and make that as visually intuitive as possible, so one can browse by either by alphabet or clicking on a category folder from the tree menu in the left position. The search being foremost right on the main SOBI page, as it's the most likely to be used and shouldn't require any effort from a visitor to have to click on something else to get to it.

Is there a way to do this? I'll be grateful. I promise!
