Happy Birthday Sobi

How time flies!
And another year has passed. Joomla! 3.1 is available and we finally released SobiPro 1.1 Beta which has a completely revised user interface using Bootstrap. And the stable version of SobiPro 1.1 will be available soon.
With Joomla! 3.1 and SobiPro 1.1 you have a good team at hand to build a professional website.

We also made a lot new friends and met old acquaintances on several Joomla! events we were attending in the past year. We hope to see you all again on J and Beyond next week - tickets are still available :).

Also this year we want to present some impressive numbers:

  • SobiPro 1.0 has been downloaded over 130 thousand times.
  • SobiPro 1.1, although Beta, has been downloaded nearly 3000 times.
  • SobiPro has been already translated into 27 languages and our translations teams are working on additional 12 languages which will be available soon.
  • Our forum community has grown up to nearly 30.000 users which wrote about 160.000 posts in over 34.000 topics.
  • The JED lists already 55 extensions available for SobiPro.
  • The SobiPro Facebook fan page has more than 6000 Likes, nearly 140 users are interested in SobiPro on Google Plus and more than 8000 people are following us on Twitter.

We would like to say thank you to our active and helpful community which makes it fun to work with. Thank you to all who helped us with translations for SobiPro, with community support and by developing extensions for SobiPro.

We released the very first version of the Sobi component at May 25, 2006. So we are celebrating the 7th birthday of Sobi today. As a small gift we would like to offer a 20% discount to all SobiPro Club memberships for the next two weeks using code "Sobi7bday" in the Sigsiu.NET Shop.

AfterJaB - Moving between the circles

AfterJaB is a very hard time for, I believe all of us. On the one hand we are very excited about all those great people, old and new friends we met there. On the other hand, while participating in Twitter or other social media conversations, we realise how many great people were there and that we had simply no opportunity to talk with some of them for even a minute due to lack of time.
I think because of the very short conversation with Oliver, he is probably not going to add me as a friend at Facebook. Sorry Oliver, I really wanted to talk with you a bit longer and on a better place ;)

Sobi Family

About 6 years ago I was sitting in a lecture at the university. It was obviously one of those quite dry and boring lectures, and apparently not only for me. I noticed one of my fellow students of the course was creating his own website. I looked from time to time at his laptop and the software he was using for his site seemed very interesting. So I asked him directly after the lecture what it was.
It's Mambo he answered.

Sigrid and I spent the following days with Mambo and we were so excited, we started quickly searching for an application to use this great new CMS. At first we rebuilt our company Web site with Mambo. It went very quickly, and we had nothing more to do.

Then we came up with the idea to build a web site for our city, and this led to a problem. We couldn't find a good component for a Business Directory. Well, we are both software developers so we developed our own component. Ok, not quite, we rewrote an existing one. This was possible thanks to the Open Source license which the original component was released. We had moved to Joomla by this time, and the idea of Open Source inspired us alot, so we decided to share our component with the Joomla! Community under the name SOBI.

We released the first version of the SOBI component at May 25, 2006. So we are celebrating the 5th birthday of Sobi today.

J and Beyond 2010

We attended the International Joomla! Conference "J & Beyond" in Wiesbaden, Germany from May 30th to June 1, 2010.

This was an amazing event. Thank you Robert Deutz, Alex Kempkens, Brian Teeman and all the other helpful people of the J and Beyond organization team. Joomla! ROCKS.
