Replacing Overlib with Mootools tooltips joomla 1.5
« on: 01. March 2008, 18:36:32 »
Example - http://www.uoobuild.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_sobi2&sobi2Task=addNew&Itemid=99999999
Hover over the blue "i" icons to the right of the input boxes.

This is more of a fix/upgrade/replacement for the Joomla 1.5 guys.  Joomla 1.5 doesn't come with overlib javascript natively.  So you have to add overlib javascript to your template.  However, anyone whoever is using mootools can make this work too.

If anyone is interested I can post up some more info on how to get this to work, it's not simple plug and play code.

Am interested if the tooltips you've got going can be modified to be

1) "sticky" - think Google Maps tooltips - or better example here http://www.dyn-web.com/dhtml/tooltips/hover-tip.html

2) embed simple HTML links inside

hmmm.  Right now that is not possible with mine.  Having said that I believe anything is possible.  Therefore I'll see if I can make it happen.  Maybe get a js file in which it would make life easier!

Update:  Check out this site - http://www.uhleeka.com/dev/mootips/ and then see the ajax "cow".  Is that what you are looking for?  This feature is for mootools called mootips.

cheers.

Yes the AJAX COW is showing what I want :)

I found that the "built-in" overLIB js can also do sticky popups, see my post at http://www.sigsiu.net/forum/index.php/topic,7841.0.html - just needs more more parameters for the function toolTip to be able to set it to STICKY.

Ahh I see....

It's odd that some of us joomla 1.5 guys are having problems with overlib.  However, that said I am not sure that I like having too many js files all loading, the less the better.  I am a bit biased with mootools and since mootools is being used (all over the place) sobi2 / Joomla / templates / etc.  May as well go with mootools cause it's already being loaded for something in your CMS.  Adding overlib is just another JS file adding to the bloat.

However, I know these guys have to have it there for backwards / forward compatibility.  So for people like myself that can do light-work hacking it's nice to de-bloat the goat.

besides, the mootools styles can be a bit more fancy if your prefer that web 2.0 style.

Cheers.
