Topic: Categories on main page ?

This is my first website so this may seem obvious to others, but I have no idea how I get my categories list into the main window on my home page. Like the one here ( http://joomlacollection.com/ ) . The only way I can see my categories in my main window is to click on the category in my menu on my home page then it will go to the category page. I am trying to get all the categories and files on my home page and I'm frustrated that I don't know how to do this. The only way I know how to add things to the main window on my home page is to add an article. Do I have to somehow import the sobi2 information into an article ? Arrgh! Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Ohh i think I just found my own answer. I just make my menu item the default item and now all my categories are showing in my main home page. yaaay
