Topic: Could not upload file, please try again - error

Hi Guys:

Sobi2 Vers      RC 2.9.2.4
download plugin -     RC 2.2

On trying to upload a accepted doc or pdf file get error:
"Could not upload file, please try again."

Now the directory
sobi2_downloads is off the root dir with 775 perms ( is this right)

error log stating:

exec() has been disabled for security reasons (Error number:2)
in file: /home/techweb2/public_html/talentforhire/components/com_sobi2/includes/uploader/upload.class.php at the line: 187.

After which I took out exec from diable functions in php.ini ( a security risk!) and still not working
Any Ideas?
