If you have too few memory for running a CMS and other components on your site, you will got a memory exhausted error. Depending on the settings of your server this results in either a error message or in a blank page.Too few memory The standard PHP's memory limit is set to 8 MB, what is somewhat low. The needed memory depends on your CMS, the installed components, the modules and mambots (plugins) you have running. Joomla! 1.5 needs more memory than Joomla! 1.0.x. "Big" components with a lot of adjustable settings and features (Virtumart, SOBI2, OpenSEF, Community Builder, Fireboard, SMF bridges) need more memory than small components. Especially if you have some of them installed. Mambots and modules are running always. The memory they need has to be added to the total needed amount. The error can occur during installation (you cannot install any component), after installation or if you work with Joomla!/Mambo or any component. Symptoms for a low memory:
Memory Exhausted There are two ways to increase memory limit 1. Modify the following line in the php.ini file: memory_limit = 32M If you use Windows and WAMP, the file can be located in C:WINDOWSphp.ini or c:wampphpphp.ini 2. Add the following line to the .htaccess file which can be found in the root folder of Joomla: php_value memory_limit 32M If these don't work, your provider has disabled the possibility to increase the memory limit. |
