If you get this message during installation of SOBI2:"MySQL server has gone away" means the connection to your MySQL server has been lost during installation. This happens with the installation of many large components (not just SOBI2) on less than optimal servers which have short connection timeout settings and especially while trying to install a large component over the internet (which means the connection speed also matters). Sometimes you can work around this limitation by installing from a directory on your server. See: How to install SOBI2 from a directory on your server This removes the connection speed and the package extraction time from the overall installation time equation. Then it may be possible to get the installation completed before your server times-out. If you get this message during normal SOBI2 operations: If your server has very restricted settings it is possible that you will get this message during some normal SOBI2 operations. In this case you have to ask your provider to increase timeout settings or use a provider who has better configured servers to run Joomla!. |
