SobiPro 1.0 RC4 released

SobiPro 1.0 RC4 released

We are proud to announce the immediate availability of the fourth release candidate of SobiPro. This is a security release. With this version we are approaching the stable version of SobiPro which will probably be the next release. Since the RC3 we were able to fix 81 bugs (including 2 security bugs) and to improve SobiPro significantly.

We've improved the data pre-fetch (known as object cache) and speed-up SobiPro in this way. If you have this feature enabled, you will realise that the first call of each site may be a bit slower as before, but every next visit is extremely faster. A side note: even if this functionality is called cache, it is not a cache in the common sense of it. It's an intelligent mechanism of data pre-fetching which auto-refreshes the data after changes to the affected object (category, entry, section) has been made. Therefore it is highly recommended to have this feature enabled.

Beside them we improved the CSS/JavaScript cache. Now each relative URL within a CSS file (like background image URL) is being translated to an absolute one. It prevents errors caused by different CSS file location.
Why it's a good idea to use this function? As you probably know, every browser limits the number of requests sent to a site at once. And every image, CSS file, JavaScript file, etc. causes one such request. The CSS/JavaScript cache merges all CSS and JavaScript files to one file. Therefore you only need one request for JavaScript and one request for the CSS file at once. At the end it increases the response of a site significantly as only two files have to be loaded instead of 10 or 20 files.

Additionally a lot of nice features have been added to the current version. Besides, for example the filter in the "all entries" listing in the administration area of a section, it is now also possible to override CSS and JavaScript files in the template. If you need your own CSS styles file for the Review & Rating Application, just put a file called review.css into your CSS directory within the template, and then this file will be loaded instead of the default one.

We hope you'll enjoy this shiny new version :)
