The Input Box Field

Input Box Field Configuration

Last updated: 27. June 2018
Refers to version: 1.4.8

The Input Box field is used for many types of content, from street addresses and names to just about anything you can think of that only requires a few words or short sentence.

Edit or add an Input Box Field

You can add an Input Box field to one of your sections by navigating to SobiPro Control Panel and clicking on a section name from the sections list, or by selecting the section from the Sections drop-down button. Once the section opens, select the Section Configuration from the menu on the left and then click on Fields Manager.

To add a new Input Box field, click the Add Field button and select 'Input Box' from the drop-down list on the top right.

Edit or add an Input Box Field screenshot

To edit an existing Input Box field, just find that field in the list of existing fields and click on its name.

The Input Box field has several settings which are divided into four tabs. The first tab, General Field Settings, lets you set-up the general field settings. The second tab, Entry Input Field Settings, lets you set-up the settings used for the entry form in front-end. The third tab, Entry View Field Settings, lets you manage the behaviour of the field in the views (listings or details views) on front-end and the fourth tab, Search Field Settings, lets you set-up the behaviour of the field in SobiPro search form. These four fields are available for most of the fields for SobiPro.

General Field Settings

General Field Settings screenshot

Enabled
Yes or No. Whether the field is enabled or not. As long as you have a field set to disabled, it won't be shown somewhere on front-end.
Encrypt Data
Yes or No. Whether the field's content is stored encrypted in the database or not. SobiPro uses the following encryption for PHP7.1+: aes-128-gcm. For lower PHP versions: AES-128-CBC.
Label
Specify a label for this field. A label is shown on front-end if set so. In back-end labels are shown always.
Alias
This is the name of the field used in the template. If you do not enter a name for the field, SobiPro will create one for you automatically on save. A field alias has to start with field_. In case you haven't entered it, SobiPro will add it for you. The field alias can be changed, but must be unique. Meaning you can't have two Input Box fields in the same section named e.g. field_name or SobiPro will rename the alias to field_name_2 or similar.
Suffix
Text entered here will be added right after the field's content in the front-end views, and after the input element in the entry form (add-on append).
Unique Data
Yes or No. Requires the user to enter unique data into this field. Example, if the user creates a listing title that is the same as someone already used, an error message is shown and the entry can't be saved. It will require the user to enter a new title in the field.
CSS Class
Allows to add a CSS class that will be added to the output in the template. This class is added to the output of all views with that field (front-end only).
It is pre-set to spClassInbox. It is not wise to change or remove it as it could be used by one of the SobiPro templates to style the output of that field. If you need your own CSS class for that field, simply add it separated by a space sign.
Show in Admin List
This setting will add a column which shows the content of the field in the entries lists in the administrator area. For example, if you set the option Show in Admin List to Yes for a field which contains cities, you could then sort the entries in the back-end by the city as entered by your users.
Notices
This is a simple note box you can use to show other admins what the field is for. This is shown only in the edit field screen in back-end. It is not output to the front-end at all.
Default Value
Enter a pre-set value in this field. The Input Box field's input box is pre-populated with that value when a new entry is added.

For older templates only 'popup' is available. In the back-end, only 'popup' is available.
Show Label
This setting allows to switch off the label in the entry form (front-end). In back-end labels are shown always.

It is pre-set to spClassEditInbox. It is not wise to change or remove it as it could be used by one of the SobiPro templates to style the output of that field. If you need your own CSS class for that field, simply add it separated by a space sign.
Administrative
Determine if the content of the field will be set by an administrator only (Yes). The field isn't shown to normal users in that case (front-end).
Required
Lets you choose whether to make the field required when a user adds or edit an entry. If a field is set to required, it has to be filled in, otherwise the form cannot be send.
