Update SobiPro and its applications to the most recent version before reporting a problem!

We are continously improving SobiPro and its applications, fixing bugs and making working with them more easy. Still we see that some users report problems for older versions. Mostly they are already fixed. If you are using older versions, please update SobiPro and its applications to the most recent versions!

Hi,

I updated a website and now my google maps (Geomap) starts to load correctly for a second then crashes with the message:

Ooops! Something went wrong
This page didn't load Google Maps correctly. See the JavaScript console for technical details.

The console error tells me that I do not have a Googlemap api key. After hunting around it seems that this year Google has started insisting on each user/website having a unique api key.

So I eventually registered my own api key through Google and pasted it into the Sobipro Geomap field settings. Nothing has changed; same error message, no map. Anyone else had any experience with this?

This is what I did which worked for me:

1. For the module go to:
Extensions > Modules > SobiPro GeoMap Module
Then in the field for Google API URL put in https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YOUR-API-KEY&callback
replacing YOUR-API-KEY with your actual API key

2. Also add the API key to the SobiPro Component:
Components > SobiPro
Select your Section
Then go to Section Configuration > Fields Manager > Select the geomap field
Then I added my API to 3 areas:
2.1 General Field Settings > Google URL: https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YOUR-API-KEY&callback
2.2 Search Field Settings > Script URL: https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YOUR-API-KEY&callback
2.3 Search Field Settings > API Key: YOUR-API-KEY

Same here, I updated Sobi component to the latest version, and the Joomla core, added my API code (which works elsewhere) but I get a message "This page cannot load Google Maps correctly with "for development purposes only" repeated seven times across the map.

I have this issue on two different sites using Sobi with the sobi geomap module.

Is this fixed in the latest version of the geomap module and requiring a new purchase of it for the fix?

I'm having the same problem as of today - http://tournamart.com/. I've created a google billing account, ensured I'm using the right API key my the SP GeoMaps module and no change. Please let us know if a new purchase of the geomaps module fix it?

Do not forget to add the API key to the module AND the field!

Can you provide any more details on what " Do not forget to add the API key to the module AND the field! " means? I only see one place to add it and I'm doing that. If there's a second place it also has to be added then please let me know where both locations are. A reference to some documentation on how to do this would be fantastic.
Otherwise the problem I was having seems to be a plain old bug in the SobiPro GeoMaps module. See https://www.sigsiu.net/support/community-area/will-this-be-addressed-in-geomap-before-google-starts-making-changes-11th-june#reply-12143 for how I worked around it.

Go to the GeoMap field in your directory and there are 2 places that have to have the API key plus the module.

No, this is not necessary as our products are already doing this.

Surely there should be a simple setting in the general configuration where you can enter the API key once. I've followed Tarny Burton's helpful instruction above (with no help from SP) and added the key to Extensions > Modules > SobiPro GeoMap Module but clicking on the geomap field in Configuration > Fields Manager > Select the geomap field brings a blank page.

Thanks Sigrid but that's twice. However, my problem is as i mentioned in my post . . . .

clicking on the geomap field in Configuration > Fields Manager > Select the geomap field brings a blank page.

so I'm unable to enter the second key

The geomap field is showing as enabled. I am using version 1.4.3 which is the latest that will work with my version of Joomla and php. Any ideas please?

Also, do not forget to add following script to the head area of the index.php of your template
<script async defer src="/https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/js?key=YOURKEY&callback=initMap"
type="text/javascript"></script>

And if you want Google Maps in the sobipro backend, you will have to add this code to the admin template as well
/public_html/administrator/templates/isis/index.php
