Update SobiPro and its applications to the most recent version before reporting a problem!

We are continously improving SobiPro and its applications, fixing bugs and making working with them more easy. Still we see that some users report problems for older versions. Mostly they are already fixed. If you are using older versions, please update SobiPro and its applications to the most recent versions!

After I have done the recent SobiPro update this morning, http://www.country-reiten.de was no longer reachable. I can´t acces, if anything is wrong with the server environment, as I can´t access the SobiPro area in my backend.

Anybody else with this problem? Anyone, who can help me?

Or do I have to pay for support again?

I currently have the same issue with the 1.3.3 update breaking both front and backend with
0 Cannot initialise Sobi Framework. Ensure that your server has PHAR support or install the Sobi Framework manually.

Currently looking forward to install it manually, but need guidelines.

I replaced the file .../components/com_sobipro/lib/base/factory.php with the factory.php from Version 1.3.2

Now the control center is back in a site I'm working with in development.

Tried the same in a live site (broken controlcenter) - without success.

Disabling Sobipro brings back the J! controlcenter - no good idea for a catalogue-site...

Any ideas?

I fixed mine... after no replies here and no help from SOBIPro... no answer even... I dont have a valid subscription but how can I justify spending so much money when their update broke my website!!!!

I found a backup where it worked.. loaded it on another domain... then exported the database info just for everything that said "sobipro"... and zipped the sobi pro folders in the admin components folder and main components folder and modules..

Went to live site and installed old version of sobipro... then went and replaced the files and database tables from my backup site.... works now...

disappointed in this extension.. I only use it on one website thankfully... its so clunky and ugly and for the same price you can get fully functional beautiful looking directory components that setup in a few hours...

How do you guys update SobiPro?

Regarding http://www.cmsjunkie.com/j-businessdirectory I tested a few of their showcased sites and they all run very slow and clunky. Me personally I wouldn't use them if you're serious about seo. They remind me of http://www.brilliantdirectories.com/

0 Cannot initialise Sobi Framework. Ensure that your server has PHAR support or install the Sobi Framework manually.

SobiPro 1.3.3. has been downloaded over 3000 times. Why you guys globalise your own, probably server related, problem?
Before you update SobiPro you should always! check if your server/site is still compatible!

I fixed mine... after no replies here and no help from SOBIPro... no answer even...

If you write your problems in the community forum, you cannot expect help from the SobiPro team as we do not read here. This is stated clearly on the top of the main page!

If you think you have found a bug, report it in the bug tracker. This does not only help you, but also other users. Think community!

and the SSL certificate for the repository is invalid

Please do not spread false information. The SSL certificate for the repository is valid until 2017-09-30 04:09:58

Now I can't install any SobiPro Apps etc.

If I read such sentences, I can only shake my head about the flood of information.
The only answer to this can be: "It works for me."

Hello Sigrid,

Thank you for joining this conversation.
I find it disappointing that a single update 1.3.x to another 1.3.x breaks the backward compatibility and makes new requirements.

We do indeed think 'community', as we are posting in the 'community forum'.
No offense but maybe YOU should think more 'community' and read the 'community forum' more often :)

Instead of 'This is not my fault', or 'this works fine on my server' could you please help in solving this ?

The precise error message I mentioned 3 weeks ago (higher in this thread) is:
0 Cannot initialise Sobi Framework. Ensure that your server has PHAR support or install the Sobi Framework manually.

How to install the Sobi Framework manually ?
Thank you for your help.

This is how I update SobiPro, to date I have not had any problems updating SobiPro.

1) Backup website
2) Check internet connection is reliable
3) Check website server is reliable
4) Download SobiPro .tar.gz file
5) Extract .tar.gz file
6) Open the extracted folder from the .tar.gz file and then extract the .tar file
7) Open the extracted folder from the .tar file and upload all folders and files into your temp file
8) Update via backend - extensions - manage - install from folder - then click check and install
9) Keep fingers crossed that you don't lose internet connection or have a server connectivity issue.

Its also a good idea to have a test site to update and test SobiPro first.

Thank you, but I know how to install an extension on Joomla uploading a package or via the temp folder.
My question is much more specific:

The precise error message I mentioned 3 weeks ago (higher in this thread) is:
0 Cannot initialise Sobi Framework. Ensure that your server has PHAR support or install the Sobi Framework manually.

I find it disappointing that a single update 1.3.x to another 1.3.x breaks the backward compatibility and makes new requirements.

Not true, this requirement was made with SobiPro 1.3.0, so with start of the 1.3.x series.

How to install the Sobi Framework manually ?

I just wrote the article for that. But to be honest, installing the Sobi Framework manually is only an interims solution. The correct solution is to install Phar support on the server.

Article about installing the Sobi Framework manually: https://www.sigsiu.net/center/sobipro-component/154-sobi-framework

I hope this helps.

Hello Adroussel, my rundown was not aimed at you as you're not the only poster and I wasn't insinuating that you did not know how to update SobiPro via temp folder.
If my rundown helps one person be it a beginner or not, I'm happy. Regarding your much more specific question - I believe this will fall within number 3) of my rundown.

Please have in mind that SobiPro is free of charge. For the other directories you have to pay for getting an update!

Same price? SobiPro is free of charge. If you have a problem, already the cheapest membership grants you help for SobiPro. No other directory component give you support for that few money.

Ugly? Please make suggestions here https://www.sigsiu.net/idea-pool how we can make it more nice, as I think that SobiPro looks beautiful.

Sorry Sigrid, but to say "This is for free" is not enough. If SobiPro would work as promised, fast and without problems, if the support would support and solve problems, I would love to pay money for it. But - even if I had 2 or 3 Memberships - where I had "support", I am not convinced of the quality of SobiPro. You can go ahead in the same manner, you do and someday, there will be an alternative, that might be "free" too and you wonder, where all the users might have gone. Someone wrote it above: The idea of a community should be present in every member.

I would like to say thank you to the dedicated developers of this very useful tool. The sheer workload to keep up with the light speed development of software platforms, in this case the LAMP environment, and to maintain a heart for open source values and to make a living, well my hat goes off to you for your public service.

Marcus, your opinion is a little too strong. I use so many opensource solutions in my business, I have worked in this space for a long time, the professional websites built on these platforms consistently outperforms other offerings on so many levels and, is delivered to clients at democratic prices. And guess what, I am not a software developer, so I often rely on software support and trusted coders.

Keep in mind online services have made it all look so simple. You cannot often see behind the veil to the 'los angel' investor pouring resources into a bleeding development hole to keep everything looking calm on the shiny surface. Hovering up your patronized data and outspending their competition to IPO. Do you remember those other proprietary CMS platforms that never made it, where is their support :-/

What you have with Sobipro is all the code, Free, and you can develop and skin it yourself as we do. And Sigsui continue to write the code for us to use on the latest platforms ie php7. If you want their add on services or other associated Sobipro software services purchase them.

So here is my sage advice, never run an update without a backup, never run an update the day it is released unless you are sure it is necessary, test updates in an 'duplicate environment'. Take time to read what you can about the software you are using and if you can offer solutions, the forum here is a good place to share. If you conclude it is a bug, get it tracked and squashed.

Oh yeah, be prepared to pay for support sometimes and remember to charge clients for maintaining their online interests.
